Three years have passed since Edward Snowden leaked NSA documents detailing bulk surveillance data collection programs like Prism, which gave the US government access to citizen’s emails, documents and videos through some the world’s largest tech companies.
The leaks revelations underline how vulnerable private data has become to government monitoring, effectively putting pressure on large, online cloud services to provide better security and encryption strategies to keep their users data safe.
Earlier this year, the Buzzing Crow offered it’s first annual privacy check up, highlighting some of the data mining methods used by large tech firms to collect and share “advertising profiles”, targeting users with relevant ads based off activity and interests.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey interviewed Snowden today via video conference on Periscope.
